COSORI Gooseneck Kettle: variable temperature without the premium price

Five presets, a hold function and a gooseneck spout at roughly half what the boutique kettles cost. The single best upgrade for most tea drinkers.

PS Teas earns commission from qualifying Amazon purchases. It costs you nothing and never changes a score. Full disclosure.

Why a temperature kettle at all

It is the only piece of equipment that improves every tea you own rather than one of them. Green at 175 °F, oolong at 195 °F, black at 205 °F — with a variable kettle those are button presses instead of guesswork and waiting.

What it does well

Presets covering the whole useful range, a hold function that keeps water at temperature for an hour, and a stainless interior. The hold is the feature people underrate: it makes re-steeping effortless, which is the difference between getting one cup out of your oolong and getting six.

Where it gives ground to the expensive ones

The build is lighter than a Stagg EKG and the display is plainer. Pour control is good but not quite as precise. None of that affects the tea.

Practical notes

Descale every couple of months in hard water. Gooseneck kettles hold less than their size suggests and fill slowly — if you regularly make a large pot for several people, a conventional spout is the better tool.

The verdict

The best value in tea equipment. If you buy one thing from this site, buy a variable-temperature kettle, and this is the one to buy first.

Best for anyone who has ever made bitter green tea, which is everyone.
