VAHDAM
VAHDAM Assam: malty, muscular, and the one that actually needs milk
A single-origin Assam with real backbone. Strong enough to be a genuine coffee substitute and astringent enough that you will want to watch the clock.

What it is
Single-origin Assam, direct from Indian gardens, sold in resealable pouches with a harvest date on them — which is more transparency than most black tea on Amazon offers.
In the cup
Heavy malt, brown sugar, a hint of leather. The body is thick and the finish is brisk. This is the flavour most people mean when they picture strong tea, and unlike most supermarket versions of it, it is made of whole leaf rather than dust.
Brewing
205 °F and three minutes, not four. Assam has more tannin than a Chinese black and the window is tighter — past four minutes it turns properly astringent. Milk suits it genuinely rather than as damage control.
Value
Mid-priced and worth it for a single-origin with a stated harvest. Cheaper per cup than any café.
The verdict
The best argument on this list for black tea as a coffee replacement. Just do not walk away from the timer.
Best for the coffee drinker making a serious attempt at switching.
What works
- Genuine single-origin with a harvest date
- Substantial body — holds up to milk properly
- Strong enough to replace a morning coffee
What doesn't
- Tighter brewing window than a blend; goes astringent past four minutes
- Too assertive for anyone who likes delicate tea

Tea is a drink, not a treatment. Everything below is general information with its sources named, hedged to match how strong the evidence actually is. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it should not replace a conversation with a doctor or pharmacist — particularly if you are pregnant, taking medication, or managing a condition.
